Forbidden Fried Rice

This Forbidden Fried Rice is fried rice with a twist. 

Serves 2. 


  • 1 cup black rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 5 shallots finely sliced
  • 1 small carrot finely diced
  • A handful of button mushrooms sliced
  • 1 small red capsicum died
  • 125g tin of corn
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • Salt to season


  1. Place rice, salt and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30minutes.
  2. Place sesame oil, onion, carrot, mushrooms and capsicum in a large saucepan. Cook on medium heat until vegetables are tender. Add peas, corn and soy sauce.
  3. Continue to let vegetables simmer for 5 minutes. Add cooked black rice to vegetables. Combine.
  4. Serve :)
